Welcome to the Pocket Mindfulness blog.
I'm Alfred James.
I'm 41 years old and a father of 2.
I enjoy making music, running, growing vegetables, and of course, spending time with my kids.
Pretty average, huh?
Problem is, I think a lot. I always have, since a kid. And with thinking comes questioning.
I've always been on a mental mission to makes sense of it all.
What is this weird, wonderful and often difficult ride all about?
- Who am I, really?
- What do I truly want out of life?
- How can I be happy/content?
- How can I let go of this past trauma?
- Why is life so cruel?
- How can I be a better dad, husband, friend, etc?
- What's the point of life?
I could go on…but you get the drift.
Over the years I've realized that a state of mindfulness can help answer these questions, or at the very least help manage their expectations.
And this, for the most part, is what I write about here.
Pocket Mindfulness is about stopping still for a moment and taking stock of what's really going on around you.
Because if we allow ourselves to be still for a moment, to stop analyzing the past and trying to predict the future, we gain clarity of mind.
If we stop rushing around, grasping and striving at material things and endless goals, we open a pathway to a happier, more peaceful life; one that brings answers and opportunities for growth.
Life is not a sprint. It's a marathon. There's many hills and valleys to traverse. Each one is a lesson that leads us to a truth.
Stay a while and have a read around.
A great place to start is here.

I look forward to your comments.
Alfred.
